Real Robotics Builds Aspiration

Over 25 young and engaged minds aged 15-17 years from high schools in south-western Sydney attended UTS Engineering and IT's 'Make a Real Robot' Summer School.

UTS makes study real for priority school students

Design, video production, sustainability in science, nursing and robot building are all in a day's work for about 150 year 11 students, including 10 Indigenous students, taking part in the 2012 UTS summer schools.

The UTS Make it Real Summer Schools program is now in its fourth year, running over two weeks during the January school holidays.

Aviator, the smart wheelchair technology developed in the UTS Centre for Health Technologies, has been awarded third place in the Anthill SMART 100 Index. Anthill is an online business channel dedicated to the promotion of Australian innovation and entrepreneurship. As the new Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Professor Hung Nguyen is modest but proud of the breakthrough UTS has made in biomedical devices – and rightly so. He conceived the idea for the Smart Wheelchair, an innovative wheelchair that thinks for itself.
